Katherina then led Neo out to the front of the Kantex Regional Laboratory. Garin was swooping through the air, entertaining two trainers with his aerodynamics.
<Garin!> Katherina scolded him. <Sorry!> The shiny latios said, landing loudly next to them. It was quite odd to see a legendary take orders from something as small as Katherina.
<Get up on his back now!> Katherina motioned. <And don't forget to stroke his ego!> She whispered.

For a moment, Neo stood in awe of Garin. He had never seen such a large and beautiful pokemon. That awe turned to fear as the pokemon came closer. The noise made from the Latios' landing made the boy cringe, but he lightened up when he realized that he took orders from Katrina.
"Wow," was all that he could say upon closer inspection. He glanced back at Katrina for reassurance before getting upon Garin's back. Neo began to feel a little dizzy when he realized how high he was...and the pokemon hadn't even taken off yet.

<Stroke his ego, or you'll be sorry!> Katherina bellowed up at Neo. <What was that Katherina?> Garin asked.
<... Nothing, Garin! Thankyou for taking Neo to Kantex Central!> She said. She waved to them both with her front paw.
<Neo eh? I'm Garin! Nice to meet you. I'll be taking you in just a sec...> Garin shifted his body wait and gave a good almighty scratch behind his head and bottom back. He lurched to one side.
<Garin! Neo!>

<Woah,> Neo said, clutching the larger pokemon, a little scared for his life. Stroke ego? <You're so big...and tall...and far from the ground...> Neo held on even tighter when the pokemon lurched to one side. He was beginning to feel sick, and they hadn't even left the ground yet. <Oh, bye Katherina,> he said, waving shortly before quickly returning his hand to a clutching position. He hoped the pokemon would hurry up...at the same time, he hoped that Garin might find some reason not to take off at all.

Katherine gasped, but Garin corrected his balance. <OK bye!!!> He said preparing to take off. <HOLD ON!!!> He bellowed. And with that he pushed off the ground so fast that he was already 20 metres off it.
Garin pointed himself south-east and could see very faintly Inferno Peak. All the time feeling a bit bitter about Neo.
<There is no other pokemon like me! No other generous pokemon who offers a human a lift on such a powerful and wonderful me! Doesn't he know what I am and what I am capable of?> Garin's thoughts moved onto ways he might be able to impress Neo...

Garin didn't need to tell Neo to hold on, in fact, it was a surprise that the teen hadn't choked the pokemon yet. Before he could say any last words to Katrina, recite an obituary perhaps (unaware that his own had already been written...but that's a completely different point), the great pokemon had pushed off of the earth.
The initial shock of being so high made it hard for Neo to contain his breakfast, but soon, the boy loosened, and actually began to enjoy the ride. A mood hit him while they soared through the sky- power, freedom, ecstacy. Perhaps this was what that word, liberty, meant. Though the others had often talked of it, Neo had not been able to define it until this point.
"Wow," Neo said, practically speechless.
