So, winter holiday has finally kicked off, and I know what I'm going to be doing these next two weeks. You see, I had a vision during last period today that said that I could restart one of my LG/FR games and create a rad fad killing machine! :0 I know.
Um, unfortunately for me, this goal cannot be achieved because I have only ever casually played the pokemon games, meaning that I have no experience whatsoever in proper team building. So, obviously, I'm going to you guys, a pokemon forum, and asking for help (and yes I like commas).
So, what would, in your opinion, be the best pokemon team consisting of only the first generation pokemon (I may make exceptions, like a later evolution of the first gens)? This is not supposed to be the best/most awesomest pokemon in your mind, because even though Magikarp is pretty cool it has terrible everything, but rather, the strongest, most well balanced team possible.
Thank you in advance.

edit: please respond ASAP, I only have two weeks to kick this team into shape/being/creation.

I dunno. My personal fav would have to by Gyarados, but as far as a strong team goes, it isn't the greatest, and as far as tournament play goes, it's practically useless (double weakness against electricity, and most people will have thunder on at least one of their pokemon....of course, Gyrados does have the nice perk of not being able to be hit by Earthquake, a favorite by other people, or so it seems.)
My other suggestion would be Mewtwo...a powerhouse gen 1 pokemon. Love, love, love, love.
Venusaur might be a good choice as well....solar beam is pretty epic. And there aren't many great grass pokemon.
Snorlax is a nice pokemon...lotsa HP.
Meh....probably not the best person to go to as far as team-building goes- I just go with my favorites (usually Charizard, Pidgeot, Gyrados...) I'm sure that there are plenty of sites that reccomend strong teams...also, you might want to look into EV training. Only the insane venture there. Personally, I couldn't stand to do it...too boring.

Actually, I looked into EV training and found it quite interesting. Partially because you get to delve into the game's mechanics and see what's going on (for instance, if you got a bunch of people together and have them EV train different pokemon, and then record data to determine which pokemon was the best to fight against for say, Special Defense, and compile it, you'll have a pretty darn good guide for EV Special Defense training).
It also gives me an excuse to make graphs and charts and use graph paper. If I had my way, we'd all be using graph paper instead of lined. XB;; Good for tabbing and layouts. Also, it would be hilarious to see someone come to a tournament with graphs and charts concerning their pokemon, yes?

Get a FEAR. It's not great for contests, but if you wanna pwn random nublets, that's the way to go. Otherwise, I would recommend my personal favourite, Bellyzard. If you can get a Charmander with a good nature, like Adamant or Naughty, and go for 40% ATK, 20% SpATK 17% SPD and 3% HP EV's, then you should be pretty good to go!

Ah, this is an interesting Challenge you've given us, Nish...It all depends on how you like to battle...all out blitz, or status moves, or even buff and debuff moves like Sand-attack...
tell me, and I can come up with a good team for you ^^
