Alex walked up to the doors of the lab. At least, he thought it was the lab. That was the only part he wasn't entirely sure of. He pushed the doors open and called into the room, "Yo! I'm here for my first Pokemon!"

An stout old lady shuffled into view. "Hello there, dearie. A pokemon you say, what kind?"
A rather fat Purugly trundled into view. He was wearing a blinding rainbow sweater. After giving a withering stare at Alex and hissed, he plopped onto the floor under a chair. Its creepy little eyes continued to stare at the boy.
"Oh, don't worry about Ribbons," The lady said, "He's just a little ornery because he didn't get his kitty food, aren't you Ribbons?"
Ribbons meowed, and continued to stare at Alex.

He looked at the cat-like Pokemon, flinching from its hiss, then said, "Pokemon? Um...well..." Alex thought about it. He'd never considered what kind of Pokemon he wanted. Then, he remembered his favorite. Lucario. But he'd have to settle for a Riolu for now, he decided. "A Riolu, please."

The old woman smiled and clapped her hands. "Oh, my late husband had a brilliant Lucario! He was the sweetest thing, that Lucario. What kind do you want? Normal, shadow, shiny, or rainbow? We have a lot more choices than in me and my husband's time, bless his soul."
Ribbons hissed.
"Now, now, Trudy, that wasn't very nice of you," The old lady scolded. Turning to Alex, she smiled, "Jezebel here isn't a very nice kitty, sometimes, isn't that right, Tippy?"
The Purugly, who was apparently named Ribbons, Trudy, Jezebel and Tippy meowed and slunk off behind a door.
