Marco walked slowly up to the lab. The sunshine burned his eyes. It had been...how long had it been since he had last left his house? Oh well, that didn't matter now. Now, all that mattered was that he reached the lab before he fainted. Marco was sure that he was going to faint. The pressure of the sun made him want to keel down, right there. But that wouldn't convince his parents. No, they insisted that he got out of the house, that he did something that normal people did. Couldn't they see? Marco wasn't normal- far from it. They would be lucky if he returned home alive. What was that? The scent of flowers? Marco errupted in a coughing fit. He retrieved his inhaler from his back pocket and took a couple of puffs. Great. Now he was at the lab. After standing there for a few moments, Marco decided to knock. There was nothing to do but wait now.
Marco contemplated running, but, well, running was just out of the question in his state. He had recently returned from the hospital for something really serious. His parents had insisted that it was nothing big, but Marco was sure that he had almost died. Why else would the doctors have hooked him up to that thing that beeped every twenty-five seconds (on the dot. Marco had counted. You have a lot of time on your hands when your stuck in the hospital for thirteen days straight. Or was it fourteen days?)
Marco ran his hands through his short blond hair. He was beginning to wish that he had never left his house. He could have played sick, or dead, or something.

The lab doors swung open to invite Marco inside it's mysterious walls.

"Aughhh!" Marco yelled as he jumped a little. The sudden movement had surprised him. He retrieved the inhaler from his pocket once again. "Hello?" he called, "Anyone in here?" When he didn't get a response right away, he turned to leave. "Looks like no one's here so I can just go home," he said to himself. His parents would understand when he told them that the lab was completely deserted, right?

As he turned around 'the stranger' appeared right in front of him in a purple cloud of smoke. "What do you want young man?" The stranger said, their eyes narrowing down on Marco.

Marco turned around. To his disappointment and surprise, there was a figure standing there.
"I um, um, well," Marco stuttered. Why was he here? Marco glanced around nervously. "I, uh, my parents, they uh, well. Is this the um, lab?" Marco looked down. Of course this was the lab. What was he thinking?

"Does this global facility look like an umbrella shop? Of course it's a lab! What do you want?" Obviously Marco caught this strange person in a bad mood.
"You're obviously a trainer wanting a pokemon right? What pokemon do you want? Gulpin, teddiursa, chikorita, natu, whismur, vulpix..?"

"Um, well, I uh," Marco stuttered. An umbrella shop? Oh wait, the figure was joking...right? Marco fidgeted. He really hadn't thought about what pokemon he would like. Wasn't there a list or something? He scratched his head, trying to think of all the pokemon he had seen on tv. He was blanking out. What was that one pokemon named? He had seen it lots of times before, but what was its name? "Um, I really like that one that, uh, the one that looks kind of like an um, well, it's long, and it's kind of a darkish color, oh, I forget the name." Great, now he was rambling. Rambling and blanking out.

"Ekans? Seviper? Mawile? Zirzagoon? I don't have time for games, kid!!!" The stranger disappeared in a puff of smoke. He appeared again and handed Marco his starters kit.
"Here's your starters kit! There's a pokedex in there. Come back when you know what pokemon you want, kid." With that the stranger disappeared.

Marco coughed as the stranger disappeared. "Uh, thanks," he muttered a little to late. He sat down, leaning against the door frame as he examined the items he had been given. A pokedex? He fumbled with it. Finally, he found a little green button labeled "ON." He pressed it.
"Pokedex activated" the machine said in a monotone voice.
The boy fumbled around with the different keys 'til he found the pokemon he had been thinking of. Or was it? He really couldn't tell at the moment. Marco began to feel dizzy.
"I uh, think I found the one I want," he said slowly and somewhat softly.

The stranger appeared again. "So what do you want?" They said a bit more pleasantly.

"Um," Marco said. He looked down at his pokedex, but the stupid thing had turned off. He fumbled with it a bit. Luckily, it turned on to the same page he had left. "Um, I'd like an Onix please," Marco said. He glanced nervously at the figure.

"No probs! What type of onix? Steel, ruby, emerald, crystal, sapphire, silver, gold, tektite..? There are many different types of onix that have been interbred with different mineral specimens on the Cautes Breeding Farm."

Marco looked at the figure in surprise. There were different types of Onix's? Suddenly, this was all quite a bit more complicated. Marco scratched his head a bit. What had the figure said? Ruby? Silver? Crystal? Tektite? What the heck was a tektite? Marco was beginning to feel dizzy.
"Um, crystal, I guess," Marco stammered. He was trying to sound cool, but the extra efford didn't help one bit.
ooc||crystal onix are weak against fire, not water, right?

(Ooc: weakness is fire! I categorise mineral pokemon under 'steel type'. These types of onix are more for pokemaniacs to collect! ;D)
"Ok. I'll be right back." Said the stranger disappearing in the purple cloud again.

ooc||well...marco's not exactly the pokemaniac type, but i think he'll like the onix
bic|| Marco jumped a little. Though he had figure disappear quite a few times before, it never failed to surprise him. While he was waiting, he turned on the pokedex again and looked through the pokemon some more. Some of them looked familiar. Like the one called 'Ludicolo.' He was sure he had seen it somewhere before.

The stranger appeared with a pokeball in his hand.
"Here is your crystal onix. It has an interbred ability with it called Diamond Defense, an ability only for mineral onix. This move will make water and fighting attacks quite useless against them. If you evolve any onix into a steelix, this special ability is lost."

Marco nodded even though he didn't understand most of what had been said to him. Marco just stared at the ball for a moment. Now how were these things openned again? He had seen it on TV before, but couldn't remember right now.

The stranger showed annoyance at Marco. "Have a good adventure. Route 1 is that way. I sure hope you equipped yourself with a town map." "I don't have much time for beginner trainers these days," the stranger muttered before disappearing in the familiar purple smoke. Marco was alone.

ooc|| *pokes* stats? or do i have to let it out first?
Marco shrugged and began to walk away. That had been...strange. When he opened the lab door, the sun once again burned his face. The smell of pollen reached his nose. As he inhaled, he started coughing. When he reached for the inhaler in his pocket, he dropped Onix's pokeball among other things, releasing the large pokemon into the lab yard.

(ooc: man i'm forgetful!) The onix was released from it's pokeball. ((Stats)) Nickname: (you choose) Species: Onix Gender: (You Choose) Level: 5 Attacks: Tackle, Screech Ability: Diamond Defense Persona: (You Choose)It was holding a 'metal coat'! The stranger must have equipped this to the onix before giving it Marco, just in case!

Marco jumped back, surprised at the creatures size. It hadn't looked half as big in the pokedex.
"Um, hi?" he said, as he fumbled with the pokeball, finally managing to get the Onix back inside. "I'll call you Sparkle," he said to the pokeball. It was much less intimidating. Then he walked towards route 1.
