"Still don't know how that Xatu knew that stuff. How'd it figure out the exact species and variation?" Inoko looked to Thorn, half expecting him to explain everything easily in fluent English. Alas, there was no such luck for the trainer. "I guess you're not the talkative type, eh?" "Bulb. Bulbasaur." No. I'm a Grass type...duh. "Ah well. Guess we'd better set off!" Inoko aid, pretty excited as they got onto Route 1. As they paced down the path, she pulled out the Trainer Information book she had bought for her travels. "They've got... Wow! Loads of things on Route 1!" she exclaime,d looking down the table. They were travelling by day, so they had the majority of the pokemon out now. A few caught her eye. "take a look, Thorn! they've got Pidgeys! We could do with a Flying type. Oh, wow! Wild Riolu and Taillows? There's so much to do here, I don't think I'll ever get to the first Gym!" she laughed. "No Water pokemon, but there are Vulpix..." Inoko muttered, keeping walking as she looked down the table. She had flicked through quickly the night before, but water types were her main priority, so she had skipped out Route 1. She realised, as she read, that a Flying type like Taillow would be a good addition to her team, as they might need a pokemon who was fast. A Vulpix would be useful, as it would be able to take care of Fire types without a type deposit, unlike Thorn.

A cry could be heard in the distance. It got closer and closer, louder and louder. And a flock of Spearow was now in plain view.
They looked angry.

Inoko listened, watching. Her heart was pounding again. Spearow were known for being pretty vicious, and this lot looked angry. "Thorn, let's take cover until they're gone. I don't want you getting hurt before we catch anything." Inoko said- though the last part was a lie. She knew they couldn't take on an entire flock of angry bird pokemon, so she grabbed her Bulbasaur and dove for the nearest cover- which happened to be a large bush. Conveniently placed, to say the least. Inoko pulled the front of the bush away, watching nervously and hoping they would just pass over. Thorn, who had begrudgingly realised they were no match for the bird pokemon in an angry swarm, looped his vines around Inoko's wrist gently. Inoko wondered exactly why they were acting like that- what had angered them? She made a mental note to walk in that direction after the danger was passed.

The flock continued to fly ahead for a minute or two, before the noise began to settle. What had occurred was not certain, but from the direction the Spearow had come, something could be seen popping its head out under the long grass.

"Phew!" Inoko clambered out of the bush with a sigh of relief. They had survived a flock of Spearow- well, hidden from a flock of Spearow, but hey. Tomato, tomatoe. Inoko looked down to Thorn, who had retracted his vines and seemed to be dusting himself off after being shoved into a bush. Inoko now turned her spectacled attention to the direction from which the Spearow had come. She saw a rustling in the long grass, and something popped out its head. She couldn't get a good enough look, so she pulled out her Pokedex and held it up to the whatever-it-was, hoping it had scared the Spearow because it was a predator to them, not to Bulnbasaurs and their new trainers. Providing, that is, it was a pokemon.

The Pokedex revealed that they were looking on a fearsome...
Sentret. Yes, a Sentret. Apparently, it had been scaring Pokemon by running up behind and pushing them before running. It seemed that when it had done this to a Spearow, the whole flock has gotten spooked. It seemed to be moving toward Inoko's position now, giggling.

Inoko smiled, grateful that it was only a Sentret and not something that would force them to return to the bush. "Goodness, you gave us a scare." she laughed as it giggled. "Okay then, Thorn, let's try catching it a go! Sentrets move really fast, so watch your back!" "Bulb." Thorn said, stepping forwards. I'm ready. "Let's get this moving... Use Growl, then tackle!" Inoko yelled. Bulbasaur growled (well, more like rumbled, but you get the idea) and then charged straight for the Sentret.

In response to the growl, Sentret used defence curl, rolling up into a ball. Using this, it absorbed the blow of the Tackle, which knocked it back slightly. Unrolling, it aimed a scratch at its' opponent.

"Bulb!" Bulbasaur was hit- in a flash, the Sentret's sharp claws scratched him and he was thrown backwards. "Thorn!" Inoko yelled. She had a Potion, so the actual statistics would survive, but she didn't enjoy seeing him hurt. He got back to his feet, shaking slightly, but eyes focused on the Sentret. Inoko was relieved to see he was okay. "Bulba..." Let's get this moving... "All right, Thorn! Use Tackle again! Make sure to watch out for that Scratch!" Inoko yelled. Bulbasaur charged again, readying himself for a Tackle.

The Sentrat was hit, clean in the stomach, its scratch missing its mark. Knocked into a bush, it was obviously hurt. Charging for another scratch attack, it was clear that if it failed to hit, it would be easy prey for Thorn.

"Nice work, Thorn!" Inoko said, watching the weakened Sentret charge forwards. This was her first battle with her new pokemon, and it seemed that it would be a success. she was pretty excited- this could be the first pokemon she ever caught! "Let's finish this! Pokeball, go!" Thorn stepped back, ready to Tackle the Sentret if the ball missed and it continued its advance. Inoko pulled a bag from her bag and threw it towards the small pokemon. A red light leaped out as the pokeball opened.

Inoko watched the ball wriggle anxiously, before letting her ace split into a wide grin as she realised what they had done. "We did it, Thorn! We caught our first pokemon!" Inoko exclaimed, picking the pokeball up and letting their new pokemon out. The Sentret bounced up to Thorn, tugging on his bulb and tweaking him. He growled quietly as Inoko giggled. "I know just what to call you!" she laughed as the Sentret bounded about. "Thorn, meet Jack! You were like a Jack-in-the-Box, jumping out and scaring those Spearow!" Inoko laughed. Jack chirruped "Sent! Sentret!" Yay! I like it! "Come on then. Jack, back in your pokeball." Inoko said, Jack disappearing in a flash of red from a rather frustrated bulbasaur. "Thorn?" Inoko looked to him as he shook himself off. She pulled a potion from her bag and fed him it. "Here, you better? Then let's get moving!" she said, and they set off down the path again.

Two caterpies, five weedles, a blob of goop, a zigsagoon, and seventeen Cheri berries were all hanging around, effectively blocking the route.
<So, how are you today?> one of the caterpies asked the blob of goop, <The weather is simply stunning, don't you agree. Oh, I see, you're a man of very few words.> The Caterpie was clearly impressed.
<Meh, don't mind him, Gloopy never has anything to say,> one of the Weedles said before swallowing a Cheri berry whole.
