The shadows came closer, but they weren't shadowed, like the Shardakk, they were Zubat! The Zubat stormed out, obscuring the vision of Dyl and Sander, and after the swarm had cleared, a strange, chilling sight was visible.
It was a camerupt. It groaned eerily, and couldn't seem to get up...

The boy Dylan was torn between going after the Zubat and attempting to help the other pokemon. Well, no, that's a lie. He absolutely wanted to go after the Zubat. But Sander was strange, and Dyl had the feeling that he really shouldn't be leaving him alone like that. Who knew what kinds of pokemon resided further within the volcano? So, he opted for the Camerupt.
Dylan jogged up so that he was a few feet away from the pokemon, a safe distance in Dyl's book. He watched the pokemon, looking for any sign of weakness, any reason for its behavior.

It seemed there were bite marks in his side. <The general... tell the others... the commander of the Shardakk is in the volcano....> he said.
There was a moment of silence, and then Sander rushed into the cave, levitating at high speeds, followed closely by Ptah.

Bite marks? Whatever was in that cave must be pretty strong in order to take down a Camerupt. Not one to let such a good opportunity pass, but under the guise of a good samaritan, Dylan took at a pokeball and tossed it at the wounded Camerupt. "I'll get Nurse Joy to take a look at you when we get out of this mess. Either way, it's safer in a pokeball."
Commander? Dylan smiled. This was exactly the kind of thing he lived for. Other people commonly referred to it as "trouble."

Oink stared at the Camerupt. Something just didn't seem...right. <Can't tell what it is, though...> she whispered to herself.

Sighing in relief, the Camerupt turned over. It seemed as though the wound was infected.
<I'd just evolved from Numel when the shadows got me. I gave off so much light that they were repelled, but they still managed to attack me... As long as you promise to help me, I, Aagi of the Hana'aiau, will join you...>
Sander looked concerned. "They managed to attack you? But, you must have been in the Ember Cliffs, what happened?"
Aagi sighed mournfully. Sander's eyes widened. "All of them? Both sides of the war? Both the Hana'aiau and the Zina-die? Taken?" he paused, and from the look Aagi gave him, he knew... "Or were they attacked like you? Two mighty tribes... wiped out..." Sander looked speechless...
Aagi lumbered towards Dyl. <I do not know how many survived...how many escaped... I will join you. If you help me find them...>
Dyl caught Camerupt

Dylan picked up the pokeball, a bit worried about his new pokemon's wound. It seemed like the kind of thing that might kill a creature if not treated properly. By the sounds of it though, that would have to be dealt with later. Sander and the Camerupt had had quite the conversation. It almost felt to Dylan as though he were in the sequel to a movie he had never seen. Warring tribes being wiped out by a single, stronger, shadow tribe. It all sounded so cinematic. Dyl liked it.
If that weren't all enough to keep the boy right where he was, the fact that he had seemingly agreed to find "them" would have to. Dylan was wary to make promises of any sort, but, once done, he almost always kept them (unless, of course, he made the promise with the sole intention of stabbing the person in the back later. This would be the exception though, not the rule.)
"So, now we have to find the Shardakk," Dylan said. He was smiling. There was something exhilarating about coming up against the strongest tribe of the volcano (if venturing deep into one wasn't enough so already.) This was one of those times when Dylan forgot exactly which pokemon he had at the moment and their respective levels and how that meant they'd fare against such a strong tribe. Or maybe he just didn't care.

Nova was riding on blase when she arrived "so what ar we doing?" she asked "do you know what way to go? she asked Sanders, her tone was slightly panicky as she rubbed her hand on Blase's neck in an effort to calm him.

"There," said Sander, pointing into the black. "We need to venture into the cave. It's the only way into the volcano."
He began to walk, before turning around.
"Oh, and guys, don't forget the suntan lotion."

Was that a joke? Dylan was known for making those sorts of comments, but very rarely met someone else who would make light of such a serious situation. It caught him off guard to say the least.
"Well, no use in waiting here then," Dyl said. Pressing the button on one of his pokeballs, the teen released his Cyndaquil. It wouldn't help much in a cave as dark as this one, but he was thankful for any light at this point. Quetzal clung to her trainer. Dylan could feel her fear as he ventured deeper into the darkness. Or maybe, it was just him.

And then, without so much as a warning, a swarm of Shardakk covered Sander and Ptah, before pulling him into the earth. Then there was silence. Dyl could see, they were shadowed Vulpix

"Vulpix?" the boy asked. There were just so many of them. Who was it that Sander had said could turn them into their regular form? The boy Banjin was no where to be seen at the moment. Crap. And with Sander covered, there was no one to ask. There had to be another way. But Dyl's normally clear mind had been fogged over lately. Quetzal clung even closer to her trainer; her little claws had now pressed through his shirt and pierced his skin.

For some reason, the shadows avoided Dyl, or at least, Quetzal. As she got more scared, and released more flames, so the Shardakk shrank further away...

Noticing the shadows' reactions, Dyl managed to pry Quetzal away from his shirt for the time being. He held the pokemon out in front of him and walked toward where Sander had been attacked. If he could just get the Vulpix to retreat from the other person... Dyl hadn't thought of what might happen next. His mind was working on overdrive and everything was pure intuition at this point.

As expected, the shadows shrank away from the fireglow, but Sander was nowhere to be seen. He'd been taken, like so many pokemon that the group had seen, and according to Aagi, two whole tribes. The Shardakk shrank away to grant passage through the cave...

Who the heck did that girl think she was, running into the cave like that? There was no telling what kind of danger lurked within it's walls. This was suicidal. Dylan smiled and ran after her.
"Be careful!" he called out. Like that would help.
Quetzal had resumed clinging to her trainer's shirt as he ran through the darkness. For a second, Dylan felt like a little kid again- playing tag in the dark. It was a nice feeling, something that didn't happen often.

Nova, closely followed by Dyl, appeared in the central vault of the Volcano. It looked as though it had been fashioned into a prison. Looks like the Starsung truly were powerful. In all of the cells, there were Shardakk, screaming in the bright light of the magma below. Many of the cells were empty, but had signs of Shardakk enclosure, such as being darker than usual. In many of these cells, lay pokemon who had been taken by the Shardakk, including two tribes, The Hana'aiau, and the Zina-die, who seemed to be oblivious to the looming apocalypse, and were still bickering. In another, Sander lay, flickering, almost as though he was ceasing to exist...

As Dylan tensed up, Quetzal seemed to be relieved at the sight of magma. She loosened her grip, even dropping to the floor below to walk beside her trainer.
The boy took in his surroundings, wondering how the cages had been fashioned, how any pokemon would be strong enough to force the rest into the enclosures. Once again, his mind was working overtime. Then, he spotted the lump that was Sander in one of the cages. Dylan quickly jogged over to where the man lay. Quetzal poked her head through the rungs of the cage curiously.
Dylan paused a moment, trying to think of a plan. If he had a water pokemon, he could have ordered it to shoot water into the molten rocks below. Undoubtedly, the rapid cooling would cause some sort of natural disaster, possibly wiping out all life within the volcano. It was probably a good thing that Dylan didn't possess such a creature.

Nova ran beside the boy, "sander...oh crud this is not good" she still didn't know the names of any of the people who were helping Sander, she looked to Dylan "got any plan as to how to get him out of there?' she asked, her lavender eyes flickered over to Sander again, fear mixed with pain flashed behind the purple orbs as she saw the hurt in his own eyes.

Mischievous grin. "Yah. You got any water pokemon?" Dylan's smile disappeared. He was just kidding, and hoped that the girl understood. A few seconds later, he got an idea that caused him to wonder how it hadn't occurred to him before. Dylan quickly grabbed a pokeball and released his Abra Atlas.
"Atlas," the boy said, "I want you to teleport into that cage with Sander. Try to say if he's doing alright." ^Why would I want to do that?^ Who's to say this volcano isn't active? Now go. Reluctantly, the Abra disappeared, reappearing by Sander's side.

It was the shock of the sudden weight of an Abra upon him that woke Sander up, and he stopped flickering immediately. "Oh dear...." he said, when he saw the roughly hewn, dark, stone bars. He got up, brushed dust off his suit, and then lifted his hand. "Seiryoku!" came his cry.
For a second, there was a bright light, and then, all was dark again, lit grimly from below by the embers of the magma. There was just one difference...
There was a hole in the wall of Sander's prison cell.
Sander calmly walked out, and then turned straight around. He looked at the Abra oddly... There was something different about it...
^What are you?^ he asked, staring at it intently, trying to discern whatever secret it could be that was so powerfully hidden that even HE, of the INTELLIGENCE could not see it... His face lightened, and the slightest smile broke out...^No, that's not the question... The question is, why are you with him?^. He paused and turned to Dylan. His face fell on the string of pokeballs around his waist.
"Your pokemon. Release them, all of them."

So now this guy had super powers as well? What was he, a warlock? A pokemorph, more likely, the teen decided, not looking half as surprised as he actually was. Dylan was more relieved than anything. At least Sander wasn't unconscious...or dead.
^Me with him?^ the Abra scoffed, ^No. He's with me.^ Fortunately, the pokemon had only directed his thoughts at Sander, otherwise, Dylan might have found reason to object.
Dylan released all of his pokemon, assuming that Sander must have some sort of plan. There were times when Dylan could be a real jerk and oppose just about anything said or done. Fortunately, he was in a more passive, laid-back mood. Odd since he was in the middle of a possibly-active volcano.
Little red lasers formed four more blobs: a Glameow, a Seedot, the still wounded Camerupt, and a Shadow Shuppet.
^What the heck is that thing?^ the Abra asked, his words cutting into Dylan's mind. He was referring to the Shadow Shuppet, which he already disliked. Hey, you're the one who said you wanted a challenge... Not the least bit sorry.
Kitty had already pushed herself closest to Dylan and had her claws out, ready to scratch anyone who dared come closer.

"I'm not a pokemorph," said Sander, speaking quietly, aware that he had revealed one of Dylan's thoughts. He was about to continue, when his eyes fell on the Shadow Shuppet. He stepped back, and looked at it in horror.
^Your name.^ he said, staring intently at the Shuppet. It was impossible that there could be ... two... such pokemon in the possession of the boy that, upon meeting him firstly, Sander had dismissed as quite ordinary.
The Shadow Shuppet stared back at him.
^Your name.^ repeated Sander, more forcefully, drilling the though into the mind of the Shuppet. ^What could that name be? That it bears such a terrible toll. That you daren't say? Reveal it...^
The Shuppet grudgingly replied. Speaking for the first time, he uttered two syllables of power...
"Seishi."
Then all was silent...
The instant those words had been uttered, a wave of light had been released from the Shuppet, quelling the magma, lessening the heat, and damaging the Shardakk Swarm around them. This had been followed by another wave of darkness, riling the flames, enriching the shadows. Seishi looked hard at Sander, not muttering a word... Sander, on the other hand, looked ashen-faced. He muttered a single word. "Sorry". Then, he finally turned to Dylan.
"When I first met you, as Nero, all that while ago, you seemed a little distant. But the thing is, that was only the beginning... You meet Nero, then you witness him fall into the forest, which is when I was born of Ninurta, then you meet me again..." he paused, unsure how to word it... "With them. There are two of them, Dylan, but there is a third, whom you have yet to meet. These are the three Poets of the Dusk. They will see your past, your future and your present... Dylan Scott. All this time, you've been running from your past. Trying to redeem your soul. But there are terrible things yet to come. And you are at the heart of them. Be careful..."
Sander got up again, when the ground shook nervously. There was a rumble, and the magma seemed to rise. Then, there was nothing...

Now this guy was freaking him out. Dylan refrained from saying anything. After all, was it just him, or was the magma rising below them. Closer, closer, closer, stop. Dyl rubbed his head. It hurt. Everything around him seemed like it was in some sort of haze. He couldn't think straight, and he couldn't keep from staring into the red, hot magma.
^Yes, you remember now.^ The Shuppet floated a bit higher. It's eyes seemed to twinkle. The pokemon was growing stronger, feeding off of its trainer's emotions.
Dylan had just entered the board room. Contrary to what one might expect, it was small, cramped. Eleven other people were sitting around on couches. Two more were seated behind a desk, taking notes about something. This was, believe it or not, the very core of Magma's operations, desguised as a simple hang-out room to make cover-up easier if they ever were discovered.
One of the senior members motioned him over. Dylan walked and quickly glanced over the paper that the man was holding on to. Plans of attack.
"There's only one problem I see here," Dylan heard himself say, "The southern enterance is always guarded not to mention the colonies of Whismer that live in the area. I wouldn't take any chances with that enterance."
"Then what would you suggest."
"Enter from the air. They won't know what hit them." Dylan smiled. "They won't know what hit them."
"The boy's a genius, I tell you, genius."
Then the door opened again.
Dylan bit his lip, knowing what was coming next. Fortunately, he managed to come out of it before being led into the more nightmare-ish part of his past. Now, he had a different magma to worry about.
