ooc|| Well, happy year of the RAT! Even if you aren't Chinese, Chinese new year can be fun to celebrate. So, with the permission of Gravvie, I'm gonna be running the event this year. It will be open from the 7th-17th of February. After that, this board will be locked. Since this is an event board, it's okay for your character to be here as well as somewhere else in Kantex. Chinese people love defying the laws of physics. Keep in mind that your character must have recieved a pokemon from the lab before entering the festival. bic|| Welcome to the Chinese New Year Festival 2008, Year of the Rat!-reads the banner which is strung between two poles which make up the gate to the festival. Chinese characters are written below, presumably stating the same thing. Small pictures of a Rattata, Pikachu, and Minun adorn the edges of the sign. Just beside the main entrance, two men are handing out red bags to each trainer that enters. Each contains 5 tokens. The tokens are golden with a small square cut out from the center to ressemble old Chinese currency. However, "Festival '08," printed on them, alluding to the fact that they aren't legal tender. ((This is per trainer. So, if you have two trainers and they both come to the festival, they each get a red bag with the fake money which can be used here, or kept as a souvinir.)) Booths are set up all around, some explaining Chinese history, others selling food and figurines, still others with games that one can play. The first booth allows one to buy more tokens if one has run out of the complementary ones, but still wants to play. The prices are as follows- 1 Token - $500 3 Tokens - $1000In small lettering beneath, No Returns is written. The second booth contains a game. After inserting a coin into a machine nearby, one will recieve a red bean bag which can then be tossed towards holes. ((If your character chooses to play this game, state which hole they are aiming at. I will then either flip a coin or use a random number generator to determine whether or not they get it in. If they do, they will win a prize which is determined by the hole they get it in among other things. All levels are chosen with a random number generator between level 5 and your character's highest leveled pokemon)) In the third stand, they are selling items: Rattata Doll - 2 Tokens Pikachu Doll - 2 Tokens Giant Raichu Doll - 3 Tokens (3.5 ft tall!) Rattata Magnet - 1 Token Comemerative Pokeball - 2 TokensThe next stand is the Pokemon stand: Rattata - 3 Tokens Pichu - 3 Tokens Sandshrew - 4 Tokens Pikachu - 5 Tokens Plusle - 5 Tokens Minun - 5 TokensA notice below reads: All Pokemon are level 10. For Shiny Pokemon, add 3 Tokens. Then, there is a stand for buying food: White Rice With Soy Sauce - 1 Token Chow Mein - 2 Tokens Egg Rolls (2 piece) -2 Tokens Vegetables, Meat, and Rice - 3 TokensIn the last stand, there is a small Chinese man, handing out free balloons, as well as giving people the chance to enter a drawing for a Mystery Pokemon (DUN DUN DUN!) Balloons - FREE (1 per customer) 1 Raffle Ticket - 1 Token 5 Raffle Tickets - 3 TokensBack behind all the mess are a number of chairs that one can sit at in order to meet other people, or to watch a show on the nearby stage. A schedule is posted- Thursday - Dragon Dance Friday - Kung Fu Demonstration Saturday - Tai Chi Demonstration Sunday - Dancing Monday - Chinese Acrobatics Tuesday - Dragon Dance Wednesday - Fireworks

Tyson was traveling when he passed a festival. He read the sign which explained it that it was for the Chinese New year! He quickly purchased 7 tokens. He ran over to a both selling pokemon. He looked at the 'menu' and selected what he wanted. He inserted all of his tokens and purchased a Shiny Sandshrew. Immediatly after, he was having seconed thoughts. Ah man! That was my last token. At least I got another pokemon! But now I'm kinda hungry... I wish I had more money!

Darkaan noticed the hype and colour and came down to check out the fiasco.
"Chinese New Year... Cool!"
Mortochi and Exzodus were beside him and were beside themselves! <WOOHOO! Let's play! We can get something coo!> Mortochi said clapping his hands together excitedly.
"Sure! Why not?- OH!" Darkaan finally saw the price of the token's. Darkaan went up to the machine and put in $500 to receive a token. He gave it to Mortochi.
"Why don't you go over to that ratatta machine and play that game you guys? One throw only, so AIM well."
<Why can't I get a token Darkaan?" Asked his fearow. "Because these festive activities are unusually expensive. We'll stroll through the rest of the festival." Darkaan concluded.
<But you got heaps of money! I've seen you get heaps of cash from those items you've sold in Shelau Town!> Exzodus protested. <PLEASE!!!>
Mortochi piped up. <How can you play 'throw the beanbag', Exzodus? You got no arms!>
Darkaan tried not to laugh. "True!" He thought. Exzodus remained silent. He didn't think of that either. Mortochi now held the beanbag he exchanged for his token. He aimed at the lowest Hole E. The one he thought was closest to his height.
<Ready... Aim... Focus... ... ...UGH!> It sailed through the air...

ooc|| Note- Everyone gets 5 FREE tokens in a red bag. I think it's written in like the second paragraph or something. Additional tokens have to be bought. Or you could just buy them all. I don't really care. bic|| Tyson bought Shiny Sandshrew!Name: Gender: Level: 10 Attacks: Scratch, Defense Curl, Sand Attack Ability: Sand Veil Persona: Festive ---- Mortochi hit the board, but the beanbag went in! A small pokeball was shot out at Darkaan by the game's despenser. Darkaan won Shiny Pikachu!Name: Gender: Female Level: 50 Attacks: Agility, Discharge, Light Screen, Thunder Ability: Static Persona: Cuddly ooc|| Dude. Darkaan. You managed to find the ONLY shiny pokemon on the board. Do you know what the odds are of that? 1/36. Congrats....and you know, I used a freaking random number generator between 1 (should have been five, but I messed up) and 50 (your highest leveled pokemon) and got 50...the highest possible. So, the odds of you getting the shiny pokemon at the highest possible level works out to be 1/1800. You are one lucky duck. I personally can't believe it. I'm jealous.

Milo stared in awe at the Festival. Chinese New Year was barely celebrated at his home, everyone was too busy calculating formulas and creating experimental designs to care about holidays. Taking one of the red bags, he hopped over to the Bean Bag Toss. Maybe he would get lucky this time, but it was unlikely. Aiming at Hole D, he fired his bean bag.

Milo's beanbag fell easily into the hole. A rather large plastic baggy was shot out at him. It contained a plushie!
Milo won Giant Raichu Doll!

ooc|| Hrm. I'll use a random number generator to decide what holes my charrie aims at...that way I can't cheat since I know what the possible prizes are for each one. xD. bic|| Marco was surprised when the man handed him a red bag. But what was it for? A little confused, the boy openned it, revealing five tokens. He recognized them as something he had seen in a history book once or twice before. Shrugging, he walked down the boothes. Next to him, his two pokemon flew. The Pidgeys were characteristically happy to be at such a festival. <LOOK AT THE BAWOONS!!!> one of them screamed. <BAWOONS!> the other one repeated. And subsequently, the boy was forced to follow his pokemon to the drawing booth. After being offered a free one, the boy accepted even though he was allergic to the material balloons are made of. He handed it to the nearest Pidgey, who proceeded to let go of the ribbon. The balloon floated upwards, and with it went Twee and Fwee, off to chase their treasure. A few moments later, a POP! was heard, along with the bitter complaints of the pokemon. Though offered another balloon, Marco refused, stating that his pokemon would be fine without it. Seeing that the booth was a raffle, the boy used one of his tokens to get a raffle ticket. Marco recieved 1 raffle ticket! Then, he walked down the aisles with his pokemon. The boy bought some white rice which reminded him of home. But, poor Marco didn't get to eat much of it since Fwee and Twee decided it would be the perfect time to help themselves. The birds landed on the rim of the bowl and pecked at its contents. Marco errupted into a series of coughs and ended up dropping the bowl. The teen sighed. At least his pokemon wouldn't be hungry. Finally, he ended up at the game tent. Shrugging, he spent his last three tokens to buy beanbags. <IWANNAPLAY!!!> the birds insisted together. Reluctantly, Marco handed them each a beanbag, telling them that they could hold it while he played. Marco aimed at E, then C, then E again. The first beanbag fell into the hole he was aiming for, however, the last two fell to the side, misses. A pokeball was shot out at Marco. Marco won Shiny Pikachu!Name: Gender: Female Level: 24 Attacks: Slam, Double Team, Quick Attack, Thunder Wave, Thundershock Ability: Static Persona: Docile ooc|| That was /seriously/ completely random. Now I don't feel so jealous of Darkaan though. I am lucky too, apparently...not quite as much with the level, but that would have been nearly statistically impossible to do twice in one day. Neo should get his pokemon soon. I wanna take him to the festival. I'd take Jai too...but having her morphed into a ponyta about to die and in a festival at the same time breaks my brain.

Tyson looked quietly as a man handed him a red bag. He looked inside and found more tokens. "Sweet!" He cried. He started walking over to the bean bag toss, when he saw a familiar face. "No way! Darkaan!" ((I don't know if our charactars know outside the plot...)) After meeting and greeting, he inserted a token and threw a bean bag in slot B, hoping it would land.

This time, Tyson's beanbag fell into the hole!
Tyson won Great Ball!
ooc|| If anyone's wondering, the odds of winning a pokemon and an item are about the same. Therefore, the odds of winning a pokemon on any given turn is about 1/4. And, yes, there are some holes where it's more likely to spit out a pokemon than others.

... Or the most unluckiest. I was hoping a sandshrew, an item, or nothing at all... I was actually dreading getting a pikachu and that was the only reaon why I was thinking of not doing this Chinese New Year thing (as you can tell, Darkaan didn't want to)! I hate pikachu! It's my most despised pokemon in the entire game. LOL! Now THAT'S funny to me. I'll trade it. But first for some RP fun with it! >=)
Ooc: and I think I found that hole right away. 1/1800 eh? I love it when things like this happen. I'm THE worst when it comes to luck. Maybe I should buy a lotto ticket then if that is what I get for not trying.
"Oh! Mortochi! Hah! You actually won something!" Darkaan gaped in amazement. "So they aren't rigged after all? Fluke mate! Real FLUKE!"
<Can I open it Darkaan? Please!> "That would be good. Maybe it's a shadow sandshrew or something?" Mortochi released the pokemon... and it materialised straight into Mortochi's arms.
<PIKA!> <OOF!> CRASH! The both fell to the ground. <PIKA!> <Awe... It's- a... pikachu! It's-- ugh-- so- cuddly!> Said Mortochi affectionately. The pikachu wouldn't stop climbing on him. "Hah! It thinks you're it's owner! HILARIOUS!" Darkaan said, amusing himself. Mortochi and the pikachu fell over again. <Stop it pikachu! You're to big for me for cuddles. Darkaan's your trainer. Cuddle him!> "Oh no!" Darkaan stammered, stepping back. <Oh yes!> Replied Mortochi. The twail twitched. The adorable little yellow head turned his way, it's eyes crystallising with incy wincy tears of joy.
"OH NO!" Darkaan said as the pikachu jumped into his arms. He automatically dropped it. So instead it rubbed up and down his leg. "Thanks Mortochi for winning." He grumbled. Fearow was squawking with laughter the entire time. <You're welcome Darkaan.> Mortochi remarked grinning, seeing Darkaan's displeasure. But something disturbed Mortochi. That was one affectionate pikachu. There's no way Darkaan would fall for it's cuteness- would he? He was Darkaan's first pokemon. Mortochi put this into the back of his mind.
Darkaan looked up to hear a familiar voice. "That trainer?- Is that Tyson fellow? TYSON?" Darkaan yelled through the crowds. "Is that you man?"

ooc|| XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!! Too bad for Darkaan, the majority of the mouse/rat pokemon are ADORABLE! I forgot about that part of his personality. xD; There is the slight chance that he'd win a Sandshrew from the game...but as luck would have it, he'd probably get trampled by more cute mouse-like pokemon. I've always found Sandshrew to be adorable myself though. Yes. And if you win the lottery, you can share with us, right? And it's a good thing you can trade...I'm not sure what Marco's gonna think of his new fuzzy friend. I'm thinking allergies.

"...Liz, I thought you were an Aries."
"I am, you twit. This is Chinese astrology we're talking about, and the last time I checked, I was a goat. Or a sheep. Either one."
A wide grin spread across his lips, Greg wandered onto the festival square, casually tossing up the bag filled with festival tokens and catching it again as he looked around. Messing around with Liz was always funny, and festivals like this one always seemed to give the male an extra boost, energize him. This one was no different.
"Hey Liz, check it out! Food!"
Liz, who had now levelled with her friend, rolled her eyes, obviously in a somewhat worse mood than the male. And it was mainly his fault, too. Anyhow, the young trainer had to admit that this looked pretty awesome. All kinds of games, stands, free goodies...
And food, of course.
"Greggo, let's first check out the rest, okay? There's always time for food afterwards." the girl giggled, casually hooking arms with her friend. Greg scratched the back of his neck with his free hand, returning her a smile.
"Aww...Okay then. So we've each got five coins, right?" he questioned, nodding to the red bag Liz too held in her hands, similar to the one he had in his posession, "So how 'bout I win you a nice plushie first, huh?"
"I'm not your date, Stanford. Save it." Liz grinned, but nevertheless gently ushered her friend in the direction of the second stall. Once there, both entered one token and soon ended up with a red beanbag each. Rather confidently, Greg was throwing his one up and catching it like he'd done with his bag of tokens, a lopsided grin curving his lips.
"Just so you know, if I hit a plushie, you ain't getting it." he spoke, before tossing his beanbag in the direction of hole B. Next to him, Liz once again rolled her eyes, before sending her beanbag flying towards hole D.

Tyson shot a little too high, completely missing the board.
Greg's beanbag flew effortlessly into the hole. The machine spit out an item.
Greg won Great Ball!
Liz's beanbag fell to the side of the hole. "Better luck next time!" the machine said in a mechanical tone.

After winning the giant plushie, Milo proceeded to go to the other stands. He bought a Commerative Pokéball and White Rice with Soy Sauce, leaving him with only a coin left.
Shoveling the rice into his mouth, he saved a portion for Mosh. Releasing his only pokémon, Milo tried to feed the Magikarp. Unfortunatly, it didn't seem to care less for the food. Sighing, he ate the rest of the rice, returning Mosh to its pokéball.
Returning to the bean bag toss, he put his last coin in the slot and aimed at Hole E. Fwoosh! The bean bag sailed toward the hole.

After noticing he was the one who came out victorious (though not with a plushie, something he had silently hoped for), Greg couldn't resist to chuckle, examining his prize somewhat proudly. Of course, when the machine declared what it did, and Liz not seeming to like it as she huffed and crossed her arms rather insulted, that just gave the male more to laugh about.
"Aww. Is poor Lizzie-Liz sad now 'cause she didn't win anything?" Greg spoke, his voice mocking as he gently nudged his friend with his free hand, dropping his prize into the shoulder bag that was slung over his shoulder, "Having second thoughts about me winning something for you yet?"
"Please," Liz spoke, crossing her arms, "It's just a game, I don't have to be sad about anything."
"But you are." the male teased, a rather confident smile having lit up his features. Before Liz could utter another protest, however, he had already slipped his hand into hers, and was gently dragging her along behind him, in the direction of the first stand. Liz, quite confused, watched as he friend traded $500 for another token, beforedragging her toward the fourth stand, where Pokémon were sold.
"Greg, what the hell are you up to?" the female finally questioned, but Greg remained silent, a rather mysterious smile having crept up his face. With a swift movement, the male snatched the token bag that was originally in Liz's posession, fishing up three tokens and placing them on the small counter next to three of his own.
"I would like two Pichu for that, please," he declared, after clearing his throat, "A male and a female, if possible."

However, Tyson's beanbag missed the slot. ((Awww...sorry...statistically, if you use all five tokens, you should get one pokemon, an item, and possibly a third thing.))

A man at the gate handed Oink a paper red bag. It contained five of the tokens needed for the different events. Up ahead was another booth where more tokens could be bought.

Oink accepted the tokens, bowing to the man who gave them to her. Her stomach called for food, and the food booth smelled SO good...But instead she pulled out a smushed sandwich from her bag. Best to save tokens.
Instead, she wandered over to the weird mousy-thingy-booth-thing. Yea. She inserted a token into the little dispenser, grabbed her bean bag, and aimed for hole #1.
Twig popped out of his Pokeball and wandered over to the food booth, awed.
